Garments and fabric, priced on detail.

Textile quotes move on details that are easy to leave out: composition, weight, construction, and how many colourways. Sending them at the RFQ stage is the difference between a comparable quote and a placeholder number.

What we can source

Product groups in this category.

Woven and knitted garments

Shirts, dresses, uniforms, and basics. Available cut-and-sew or as full private label production.

Fabrics

Cotton, rayon, blends, and traditional woven textiles. Sold by the roll with defined width and weight.

Batik and printed textiles

Hand-drawn, stamped, or printed. The three are very different in price and production time, and the word batik alone does not distinguish them.

Home textiles

Bedding, table linen, cushion covers, and towels.

What to specify

The details that decide the price.

A supplier who cannot answer these cannot quote. Sending them up front is the single fastest way to get comparable numbers back.

Composition
Exact fibre percentages. “Cotton blend” is not a specification and cannot be priced accurately.
GSM or fabric weight
Grams per square metre. This drives both hand feel and cost more than almost anything else.
Construction
Weave or knit type, yarn count, and thread count where relevant.
Size set and grading
Send your size chart with measurements. Regional size standards differ and cause returns.
Colour
Pantone references, and state your acceptable tolerance. Lab dips are normal before bulk production.
Decoration
Print method, embroidery, wash treatment, labels, and hangtags — each adds cost and time.

Commercial considerations

  • Minimum orders are usually set per colour and per style, not per order in total.
  • Sampling runs in stages: proto, fit, then pre-production. Budget time for each.
  • Private label adds label, packaging, and artwork approval steps that lengthen the schedule.
  • Fabric availability can gate the whole timeline if a specific quality has to be sourced first.

Packaging

  • Polybag per piece, then master carton, is the common default. Confirm whether folded or hanging.
  • Care labels and composition labels are usually a legal requirement in the destination market, not an option.
  • Barcode and retail packaging specifications should be sent at the RFQ stage, not after sampling.
  • Confirm carton dimensions and pieces per carton for freight calculation.

Certifications buyers may request

  • OEKO-TEX where the buyer requires tested materials
  • GOTS for certified organic content
  • Social compliance audits such as BSCI or SMETA, common for retail buyers
  • Country-specific labelling and flammability requirements

Certifications listed above are ones buyers commonly ask for. They are not a claim that any particular supplier holds them. We record what each supplier actually holds, and say plainly what is missing.

Sourcing context

What affects your timeline.

  • Indonesia has both large garment factories and small workshops. Large factories carry higher minimums; workshops offer flexibility but need more oversight on consistency.
  • Traditional textiles are often produced by artisan groups where output is genuinely limited. Treat stated capacity carefully.
  • Approval of samples is where most timelines slip. Decide who signs off and how fast, before starting.

Common export routes

Where this category usually ships.

HS codes are the classification your customs broker already uses. Labelling everything this way means nothing is lost between the quote and the shipping documents.

How suppliers are checked

You see the level, not just a badge.

L1

Documents checked

Business registration (NIB), tax ID (NPWP), and any certifications collected and cross-checked for consistency with the company identity given to us.

L2

Capability confirmed

Production capacity, lead times, packaging, and export experience confirmed in a direct call with the person responsible.

L3

Seen in person

Production site visited in person, with dated photos and notes filed on record. Given only when the visit actually happened.

Before you ask

Include these and quotes come back faster.

Each missing item is one more round of email before a supplier can put a number on paper.

Questions buyers ask

About sourcing this category.

Can I get samples before production?
Yes, and you should. Sampling normally runs in stages and each has a cost. Suppliers who skip straight to bulk without sampling are taking a risk on your behalf.
What minimum order should I expect?
It varies widely between factories and workshops, and is usually counted per colour and style. We ask each supplier directly rather than quoting a general figure.
Is private label possible?
For many suppliers, yes. It adds artwork approval and packaging steps, so start the conversation earlier than you would for stock goods.
